1 Kings 15

1 And in the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam became king over Judah.

2 He reigned in Jerusalem three years. And the name of his mother [was] Maacah daughter of Abishalom.

3 And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before his face, and his heart was not complete with YHWH his God as was the heart of David his father.

4 Nevertheless, for the sake of David, YHWH his God gave to him a lamp in Jerusalem, by setting up his son after him, and by establishing Jerusalem,

5 in that David did right in the eyes of YHWH and did not turn aside from anything that He commanded him all the days of his life—except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

6 And there was war between Rehoboam and between Jeroboam all the days of his life.

7 And the rest of the acts of Abijam, and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Words of the Days of the Kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and between Jeroboam.

8 And Abijam rested with his fathers, and they buried him in the City of David. And Asa his son reigned in his place.

9 And in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa began to reign as king of Judah.

10 And he reigned forty-one years in Jerusalem. And the name of his mother [was] Maacah daughter of Abishalom.

11 And Asa did right in the eyes of YHWH, like David his father.

12 And he banished the male shrine prostitutes from the land, and he removed all the idols that his fathers had made.

13 And he removed Maacah his mother as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive image of Asherah. And Asa cut down the repulsive image and burned [it] in the Valley of Kidron.

14 And the high places were not removed; nevertheless the heart of Asa was completely with YHWH all his days.

15 And He brought the holy things of his father and the holy things for the house of YHWH, silver, and gold, and vessels.

16 And war there was between Asa and between Baasha king of Israel all their days.

17 And Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and he built up Ramah, that he might let none go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

18 And Asa took all the silver and the gold that remained in the treasuries of the house of YHWH and the treasuries of the house of the king, and he gave them into the hand of his servants. And King Asa sent them to Ben-hadad, son of Tabrimmon, son of Hezion, King of Aram, who dwelt in Damascus, saying,

19 “a covenant [be] between me and between you, as there was between my father and between your father. Behold, I have sent to you a present of silver and gold. Go, break your covenant with Baasha king of Israel, so that he will go up from me.”

20 And Ben-hadad listened to King Asa, and he sent the captains of the armies who [were] unto him against the cities of Israel. And he struck Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-beth-maacah, and all Chinnereth, besides all the land of Naphtali.

21 And it came to pass when Baasha heard it, that he stopped building Ramah, and he dwelt in Tirzah.

22 And King Asa caused to hear all of Judah—none [was] exempt—and they took away the stones of Ramah, and the timbers that Baasha had used for building, and King Asa built with them Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpah.

23 And the rest of all the acts of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities that he built, are they not written in the Book of the Words of the Days of the Kings of Judah? But in the time of his old age, he was diseased in his feet.

24 And Asa rested with his fathers, and he was buried with his fathers in the City of David his father. And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place.

25 And Nadab son of Jeroboam became king over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years.

26 And he did evil in the eyes of YHWH, and he walked in the way of his father and in his sin, by which he had caused Israel to sin.

27 And Baasha son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him, and Baasha struck him down at Gibbethon, which [was] of the Philistines. And Nadab and all Israel laid siege to Gibbethon.

28 And Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned in his place.

29 And it came to pass in his reigning [that] he struck down all the house of Jeroboam. He did not leave anyone that breathed to Jeroboam, until He had destroyed him according to the word of YHWH that He had spoken by His servant Ahijah the Shilonite,

30 on account of the sins of Jeroboam that he had sinned and by which he had caused Israel to sin by his provocation with which he provoked to anger YHWH, God of Israel.

31 And the rest of the acts of Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Words of the Days of the Kings of Israel?

32 And there was war between Asa and between Baasha king of Israel all their days.

33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king over all Israel in Tirzah, for twenty-four years.

34 And he did evil in the eyes of YHWH, and he walked in the way of Jeroboam and in his sin, by which he had caused Israel to sin.
